Mets continue to Roll in 14-1 victory over Desperados

-----------------New Mexico Mets Press Release-----------------

April 30, 2006

Santa Fe, NM - The New Mexico Mets added another win today with an impressive offensive explosion in the sixth inning against the Southern Conference Desperados. The game was a nail-bitter through 5 innings, with good pitching by both clubs. Rod Tafoya of the Mets did not let a batter past 1st base through 5 innings and had only allowed 4 hits to that point. The Mets bats were also quiet through 5 with the Desperados pitcher, Brian Jacobs, keeping the Amazin's shutout.

The 12 run sixth inning rally was started by a single from leadoff hitter Andres Durran who then stole second base. Scott Ferran then doubled him home to start the rally. After that, the flood gates opened. Germaine Casey hit a 2-run homerun followed by singles from Walter Perea and Ronnie Jaramillo. A couple hit-batsmen, a single by Alex Garcia and the table was set for pitcher Rodney Tafoya to hit a 3 run homerun. Another homerun by Scott Ferran and the Desperados had ridden their last ride.

The Desperados played a clean game, not commiting a single error through 9 innings, but was not able to get any rallies going against the stingy Met pitching.

Through 6 innings, Tafoya logged 6 k's and 0 ER. In releif, Ronnie Jaramillo struck out 5 in 3 innings and allowed one unearned run due to a throwing error by manager Bret Helenius. "I feel like my best pig just died" said Helenius in postgame interviews. "You replay it over and over in your mind, and it always has the same outcome."

Jaramillo, a former Highlands University standout, looked particularly sharp against the Desperado hitters. "I'm starting to get the feel back for my balls" said Jaramillo in postgame questioning.

The Mets face the Isotopes in a conference match-up next week at Ft. Marcy Baseball Field.
