Tafoya and Munoz Combine for No-Hit, Shutout in Mets Opener

Santa Fe, NM - A perfect day for baseball almost ended up that way in the 6 inning shortened game against the Dukes. Rod Tafoya and Justin Munoz combined for a no-hit, shutout and came one walk and an error shy of a rare combined perfect game. Tafoya surrendered a walk in the fourth inning and Munoz allowed a baserunner on a throwing error. Each pitcher registered seven strikeouts on the day for a combined 14 punchouts. Tafoya left with the win. Munoz made his Mets debut with the stuff Mets brass expected. Munoz was signed by the Mets for the 2007 season on March 25.

The Mets offense got a start with Germaine Casey launching a moon shot in the first inning to bring in two runs. Casey ended the day with a perfect 4 for 4, just a triple shy of the cycle. The Mets offensive machine got rolling in the second inning with six Mets crossing the plate including a home run by Steve Rivera. Rivera went 3 for 4 on the day.

In the third inning, Ferran launched the first of two home runs, while Casey, Jaime Collazo, Walter Perea and Ronnie Jaramillo hit for doubles. The Mets continued to roll in the fourth with Ferran launching another home run and the Mets scoring seven runs. The Mets only batted for five innings of the game.

The next game will be a rematch of last years championship game against the Brewers at Santa Fe High School at 10 AM.
