Mets Win Casey Classic Championship Labor Day Weekend 2008 was a weekend that will live in the minds of New Mexico players for a long time. The Casey Classic Baseball Tournament was hosted in Albuquerque, New Mexico in honor of fallen NM MABL player Germaine Casey . Casey was a former player of the New Mexico Mets. Bret Helenius, Tournament Director, brought the tournament together with teams from around the country, with the championship game being held at Isotopes Park, home of the AAA Florida Marlins. So, it was fitting that the Mets won the MABL Regional Tournament in thrilling fashion over the Cardinals 24-12. The Mets got through the semi-final against the Brewers by one run with the winning run for the Brewers getting thrown out at the plate twice in the seventh inning. Mets Sign Former Dodgers AAA Prospect The Mets made a key pickup down the stretch when they signed Ryan Kellner, former Las Vegas 51's Catcher. Kellner played for the AAA affiliate of the Dodgers in 2004 and will help the Mets at third base and add power to the Mets lineup. Cyclones Fall to Mets The Mets continue to roll without a loss since the first game of the season as they topped the Cyclones 9-1. Justin Munoz got the pitching win with 5 scoreless innings while the Mets bullpen only allowed 1 run to finish out the game. Scott Ferran and Darrick Schultz went deep for the Mets. Powerful Mets Offense Win Again The Mets scored 29 runs against the Dukes of the MABL in a win at Ft. Marcy Stadium on April 27, 2008. After the smoke cleared, five home runs were hit including two grand slams by Bret Helenius and Andres Duran. Scott Ferran went deep for the Amazin's and Darrick Schultz did it twice. Barry Keiss got the pitching win. Mets top Powerhouse Brewers The Mets faced former Mets pitcher Rod Tafoya in a close fought battle against the Brewers of the MABL. The Mets came out on top 8-6 as Justin Munoz recorded his second win with 7 IP, 9K, 1 ER. Scott Ferran went deep as Walter Perea hit a triple and went 2-3. Bret Helenius hit the go ahead RBI in the seventh inning while Alex Garcia collected two RBI.
